Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Muhimbili NH, Honorary Lecturer at Muhimbili University and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). Currently serving as the President for MEWATA.
Championed the development of Children Surgery at MNH. Working closely with the University of Oxford and KidsOR, enhanced the formation of two children surgery theatres at MNH. This has helped to improve surgical care provision for children in Tanzania as well as a Paediatric Surgery training site for MUHAS and COSECSA.
Led a provision of complex surgical care, including the separation of conjoint twins and the implementation of a care bundle for children with gastroschisis (child born with intestines outside the abdominal cavity) to improve survival rate to 70%. Now leading the decentralization of this care bundle all over Tanzania.
Leading a number of collaborative research projects at MNH mainly in access to children surgical care, prevention of post-operative surgical site infections and on congenital malformations. Has a number of publications on peer reviewed journals.
Provide advice in policies to improve paediatric surgical care system in Tanzania. Trains, mentors and organize trainings and exchange programs for paediatric surgery trainees locally and abroad. She has currently received funding from THET to provide a one-year Leadership Training for Paediatric Surgery Nurses (Nursing Now Challenge Program) to also enhance the formation of an e-learning facility at MNH.
